WHY WISE, BLACKMAN?
Because Wise, Blackman restricts its practice exclusively to Business Valuation and Financial Litigation and is not affiliated with any accounting, investment or law firm, we remain totally independent and objective. Our fees, which are agreed to in advance with the client, are based strictly on the direct professional time devoted to an engagement.
The valuation of a business or business equity interest, or the quantification of lost profits, requires professional judgment which considers the relevant qualitative and quantitative factors. Our senior staff are accredited members of one or more of the following professional societies: The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, The Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators, American Society of Appraisers, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, The Institute of Business Appraisers, Institute of Arbitration and Mediation of Canada, and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. They also have diverse professional backgrounds, having come to Wise, Blackman from the national accounting or investment banking firms. Moreover, we play an active role on committees of various professional bodies which set standards on the practise of business and securities valuation.
Wise, Blackman contributes significantly to North American literature relating to business and securities valuation. Always au courant in valuation concepts, principles and techniques, we write extensively on the subject, lecture at major universities and frequently address professional societies across Canada and the United States on Business Valuation, Financial Litigation and related areas. Our writings have been referred to by the courts and cited in valuation literature on both sides of the border. We are constantly researching and analyzing various areas of Business Valuation and Financial Litigation and keep abreast of all new domestic and international developments which may impact valuation. We continually exchange views with, and serve as "sounding boards" for, other members of our profession regarding complex theoretical and practical valuation issues.
Our researchers can quickly track and procure authoritative writings and judicial decisions on any aspect of Business Valuation. Our library contains a wide array of Canadian and American financial literature and statistical reference material. We also use the Internet to readily access current data for our professional staff. We maintain a database of authoritative, technical valuation articles by subject, author, year and publication, as well as court cases involving income tax, dissenting-shareholder rights, divorce, damages from tort and breach of contract and other disputes, including the types of valuation and quantum issues involved. As we are extensively involved in the Business Valuation profession in North America, we have ready access to a network of our colleagues and peers on both sides of the border, with whom we continually maintain dialogue.
Wise, Blackman has also developed special correspondent relationships with various valuation firms in the United States, Mexico as well as overseas. These firms, which all specialize in business and securities valuation, share with us the same high level of professional standards.
